Part-time Extended Care Worker (Afternoon hours)

Department: Cole Academy
Location: Cypress, TX

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Job Description: Extended Care Worker


The Extended Care Worker works as part of the day treatment team at the Cole Academy providing care to children with the diagnosis of autism. The extended care worker is supervised by the Clinic Director with coaching from the Regional Director, other Board-Certified Behavior Analysts, Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts and graduate level students. The Extended Care Worker provides group supervision and interaction with patients staying for extended hours care for children with a diagnosis of autism and/or intellectual disability who display aggressive, disruptive, and/or non-compliant behaviors. Training consists of Rethink RBT modules and best practices of ABA, QBS Safety-Care training, as well as individualized programs for children staying for extended care. At times, work will be observed by parents, BCBAs, BCaBAs, and graduate level students. Employees are required to maintain high levels of energy and enthusiasm throughout these hours. There is a video monitoring system throughout the treatment center which allows for frequent observation and the possibility of video recording without the employee’s knowledge.


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

The following defines the primary job responsibilities of the extended care worker

  •  Energetic individual who enjoys working with children with special needs.
  •  Willing to provide care for children and adolescents who display aggressive, non-compliant, and/or self-injurious behavior and willing to implement behavior support plans targeting behavior reduction.
  •  Maintains a safe and clean environment for the children.
  •  Adheres to ethical guidelines and HIPAA.
  •  Courteous to families and other professionals.
  •  Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  •  Demonstrates excellent attendance.
  •  Completes all assigned individual responsibilities in a timely manner.
  •  Keeping up with extended stay attendance including accurate arrival and departure times. 
  •  Completes the necessary modules based on the RBT training curriculum.
  •  Completes QBS Safety Care Training.
  •  Adheres to the BACB Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analyst.
  •  Follows Cole Academy policies and procedures.


Required Qualifications

  •  High School Diploma or GED preferred
  •  No experience required; Training will be provided
  •  Must enjoy working with children and a desire to help children with special needs.
  •  Must be a quick learner and have reliable transportation.
  •  Hours of work will be from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm Monday through Friday unless otherwise determined by the Regional Director.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Physical Requirements:

  •  Mobility to work with young clients including: kneeling, stooping, pushing, straight pulling, pulling hand over hand, repeated bending, reaching above shoulder, walking and standing for extended periods of time, sitting in small chairs, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, grasping small items with both hands, and carrying and lifting up to 45 lbs.
  • Abilities to safely monitor the children including: running, quick reflexes, depth perception, ability to see and hear, and ability to maintain a high level of energy.
  • Must be able to follow written procedures and verbal directives.
  • Must be able to work in a high stress environment. 

Additional Requirements for Employment

 Will need CPR Certification

Work Environment:

The work environment and characteristics are described below:

  •  Exposure to high decibel of noise from children screaming, crying, and/or yelling.
  •  Exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids.
  •  Exposure to clients who may engage in aggressive behavior including but not limited to: biting, hitting, kicking, pushing, and punching.
