Full-time Spanish Bilingual Speech Language Pathology Assistant

Department: Cole Pediatric Therapy - Houston
Location: Humble, TX

Schedule: Monday through Friday, must be able to work evening hours until 7 to 8 pm

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-Assistant), under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, will assist in treatment planning and ongoing assessment of patients receiving Speech Therapy in the facility or approved home care setting. The SLP-Assistant will also implement treatment plans of patients who have been evaluated by the Speech Language Pathologist.

 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

 The following is a summary of major essential functions of the Speech Language Pathology Assistant. Other duties may be performed, as permitted byTexaslaw and regulations of governing entities. Specific functions may, from time to time, change. These functions include:

Team Responsibility:

Treat fellow therapists, clients and administrative staff with respect and politeness. To come to work on time and follow established dress code policies

 Essential Functions:

  •  Provide therapy for all types of speech, language, and hearing disorders.
  •  Communicate with the SLP to discuss patientís progress and treatments.
  •  Complete all documentation that is required for each patient (progress notes, monthly, etc.) in a timely manner.
  •  Assure  that all documentation is co-signed by the SLP.
  •  Responsible  for meeting with supervising SLP on a weekly basis as stated within the provisions of the Texas Speech/Language and Hearing Board.
  •  Communicates  to physicians, appropriate members of staff, patient and family members      regarding patient needs and progress, either by documentation or, if  necessary, direct contact.
  •  Supply billing information to appropriate staff, in a proper and timely manner for all patient procedures.
  •  Participate and attend rehabilitation team conferences and clinic staff meetings as scheduled.
  •  Observe patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
  •  Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment. Request orders of needed supplies and equipment in a timely manner to avoid emergency ordering.
  •  Keeps informed of changes and innovation in the field through professional contacts, literature, and workshops.
  •  Continually pursue professional growth and act as a Resource for expertise in the Speech field.
  •  Assume  personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
  • Provide education to patients and their families that will reinforce the therapy provided in the clinic.
  •  Provide  education related to Speech Therapy to staff and the general public upon  request.
  •  Either attends and actively participates in or obtains an excused absence and arranges for make up for all mandatory meetings and in services.
  •  Suggest and develop new patient programs and ideas for treatment as appropriate.
  •  Demonstrate skills of effective time management.
  •  Demonstrate  positive interpersonal communication skills while maintaining standards of      professional ethics.
  •  Be   familiar with home health agency policies and procedures. Protects patient rights as defined by      the patient Bill of Rights.
  •  Perform  other duties, as delegated, required, or requested.

Qualifications:

 

  • Must  be a graduate of an accredited Speech program holding either a Bachelorís      or Masterís degree.
  • Must hold a currentTexas license as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology .  
  • Must be competent to treat pediatrics and adolescents.
  • Must be CPR certified for all ages
  • Computer skills-Microsoft Word preferred

 Physical Requirements:

 

  • Must be able to follow written procedures and verbal directives
  • Must be able to use a computer and have access to e-mail
  • Must have adequate hearing and speech to effectively direct and re-direct the      therapy program.
  • Mobility to work with young clients.

 

Additional Requirements for Employment

Current CPR certification.

All Speech-Language Pathologists must obtain 30 continuing education hours every 3 years to maintain their Texas State Licensure. For speech pathologists and physical therapists 2 of the 30 CEU hours must be Ethics CEUs.
